HRH Queen Elizabeth II

This Maxicard features Queen Elizabeth II in a photo dated in 1952.  A Maxicard is a postcard featuring a stamp of the same image (or complimentary image) usually on the front of the postcard and, in my experience with this blog, it seems Australia does this the most.  The card was canceled on the first day of issue of the stamp, September 9, 2015. 

Today marks the 65th anniversary since Queen Elizabeth II began her reign!

This maxi card of Dame Edna is over tten years old.  The photo was taken in 1990 an the card was issued and stamped on the first day of issue back in 2006; 11 years ago today!!

Fiftieth Anniversary - United States Air Force

This is technically not really a maxi card, but it is damn close.  The card features an image of a stamp on the front and then was sent with that stamp (plus the familiar postcard hummingbird stamp.  Very cool.

This is an awesome card.  First, it is a Maxicard (ie: a card with a similar stamp to the photo on the card.  It was stamped on the first day of issuing in Melbourne on August 19, 2014.  Finally, this card features an advertisement of the first biscuit/cookie company made in Melbourne, Australia.

"Mulga Bill's Bicycle"

This card is kinda awesome.  First, it was mailed on year ago today on April 22 2015 (yes, I there is sometimes a big of a backlog at ye old' postcard blog!).  Also, it is a Maxi card ((ie; a card where the stamp of a similar or same design is on the front of the card instead of the reverse!)  The postcard is by of a famous poem by Banjo Paterson (who also wrote Waltzing Matilda.  You can read more about the poem Mulga Bill's Bicycle on it's Wikipedia page.

Buildings on Kaiserstrasse, Windhoek

This card is really cool.  First, it is a Maxicard (notice the stamp featuring an identical or related image to that of the main part of the postcard.)  Secondly, it was originally made in 1985 (as on can tell from the marking of June 6, 1985 on the front.

Finally, while this card was mailed from South Africa and carries a South Africa Postcrossing number (ZA-69834), it comes from the former country/area of South Africa known as South-West Africa (then part of the nation of South Africa), currently known as Namibia.

The user writes in Afrikaans "Ek hoop jy genniet jou somer." or "I hope you enjoy your summer"...a very fitting message for a card sent in early March 2015.

1952-1992 Fortieth Anniversary of the Accession

This is an awesome card.  

First, it is a card of Queen Elizabeth II.  

Second, it appears to be from 1992, which meant that this card was 23 years old by the time I got it in 2015.

Thirdly, it is a Maxicard.  Maxicards are postcards with a stamp of the same image as the card (or a related image) and cancellation.  The stamp here on this card was canceled on the first day of issue, February 6, 1992 in Truro, Cornwall.  

The sender had purchased a bunch of unused postcards at a charity shop and saw that I like royalty cards and sent it to me!  What a great find!

This card, mailed from Melbourne, Australia, celebrates a century of military aviation.  It features a very old-fashioned plane on a Maxicard and was stamped on the first day of issue, August 5, 2014.

A Maxicard is described here on postcrossing and this is one of only a few that I've received.  From the Postcrossing website:

What are Maxicards? These maximum cards, as they are often known, are postcards that feature an image (a monument, animal, event, etc) along with a stamp of a very similar or related image on the picture side of the card. 

This card interestingly enough lists on the back that the postage was pre-paid for post posting in Australia and delivery anywhere in the world.

A Direct Swap from Penny in Queensland, Australia.  She was trying to collect a card from each and every US county.  

The card is of Government House, Western Australia.  Also, the card is a first-day-issue postcard.
