Cuddly Kittens

After commenting on our mutual friend Shelby's post about getting one of these cards, my friend Val sent me one as well.  The card were sold in sets of 40 cards in the 1980's for $0.78 at a K-Mart.  Let's note, for those of you who haven't bought postcards in a while, you can usually not even get ONE card for $0.78 today!

The set even had 4 different types of cards, but this one with the two orange kittens playing in and around a paper bag are the only ones she has remaining.

USA - Washington

This cards, one of the last she sent in 2016, comes from my friend Chanele.  The image of a book massive bookshelf reaching up towards a golden sun is just beautiful.  Considering I'm a fairly active reader (enough so that I at one point had a book blog with some publishers sending me the occasional book to read and review), this is a pretty awesome card.

Now, if only there were postcard companies that sent you free postcards to blog about.  Or, even better, companies that would send you on trips to far off, exotic places to blog about the postcards you got there and the interesting things you saw.  This really is something that people should look into, right?  Asking...for a friend....

Mt. St. Helens and Spirit Lake

This card was sent 39 years ago today from Klama, Washington on November 29, 1977.  My parents sent this card to my aunt.

While this card is awesome because of the fact that it is old and it has a family connection, people who know recent history will notice that this card was sent a few years before Mount Saint Helens and Spirit Lake were forever changed by the May 18, 1980 eruption, killing approximately 57 people and changing the face of both the mountain and Spirit Lake.

Hallowe-en

This card comes from my friend Chanele in Washington State (yes, two cards back to back for Halloween!)  The poem on this one reads:

When doubt and fear creep o'er you
And your heart is beating fast
Look in a glass of water
If it's clear, the die is cast.
