Built in 1808 and located at 98 High Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts, this building is now the house home of the Historical Society of Old Newbury.
This card is a Postcard United Card. PCU is a very similar website to Postcrossing, but it features a 3-letter postal code as opposed to Postcrossing's 2-letter postal code, hence why this card is "USA" as opposed to "US".
This is a favorite card of mine. The card of the 1999 film A Midsummer Night's Dream staring Rupert Evertt, Calista Flockhart, Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci, and Michelle Pfeiffer. I actually saw this film back when it came out in theater.
This card is being posted on the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.
This card is kinda awesome. First, it was mailed on year ago today on April 22 2015 (yes, I there is sometimes a big of a backlog at ye old' postcard blog!). Also, it is a Maxi card ((ie; a card where the stamp of a similar or same design is on the front of the card instead of the reverse!) The postcard is by of a famous poem by Banjo Paterson (who also wrote Waltzing Matilda. You can read more about the poem Mulga Bill's Bicycle on it's Wikipedia page.
From the card: The Polish Nationality Room in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh contains designs found in Krakow's Wavel Caste. The 18-foot beamed ceiling reflects the Italian Renaissance influence on Poland. A portrait of Copernicus and an enlarged replica of the 16th century Jagiellon globe attest to Polish contributions to science. The windows bear medallions representing institutions of higher education.
This plane, on display in Dayton, Ohio at the National Museum of the US Air Force, dates from World War II and is painting in the style of the aircraft that flew support of the 1942 invasion of North Africa.
This card is one of three sent to me by a postcrosser in Fiji in the South Pacific on a direct swap! Fiji is a very "rare" country for Postcrossing, so direct swaps are often the only way that a person can get a card from those areas.
This is a postcard of the Doolittle Raiders Commemorative Goblets display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
The Doolittle Raid is named after Lieutenant Colonel James "Jimmy" Doolittle who lead an air-based raid over Tokyo and the Home Islands of Japan on April 18, 1942. The raid was the first attack by the US on the Japanese Home Islands and a propaganda victory for the Americans during the early stages of World War II.
The goblets are silver and each one bares the name of one of the flight crew on each of the sixteen planes involved in the raid. Each vertical volume represents one of the planes. When one of the raiders dies, the raider's goblet is turned upside down.
When only two raiders are remaining, they are to reunite in Dayton and toast their fallen comrades with a bottle of 1896 Hennessy also on display with the goblets (that being the year Doolittle was born).
This postcard is a bit dated. It shows, by my count, 17 remaining raiders; however, as of my last visit to the museum in August 2014, only four raiders were still living. As of February 2016, only two raiders remained alive.
This card features Powell's City of Books, one of the largest independent bookstores in the world in the Portland-area. This card comes from my friend Valerie. I've always heard of Powell's but have never been to the stores!
This card is the 500th sent postcard registered on my Postcrossing profile!

This postcard features a painting by arguably my favorite artist: Claude Monet (1840-1926) of his wife Camille in a black and green dress painted in 1866. The card came from the 2014 Art Institute of Chicago exhibition Impressionism,Fashion, and Modernity. The painting is normally displayed at the Kunsthalle Bremen in Germany.
For the first 500 official Postcrossing postcards I've so far posted, they've been sent to the following 50 countries which combine for a total distance sent of 2,345,432 miles!:
