Antarctica

July: Specimen of a Portrait, c.1878 by James Tissot

This card was one of my favorite paintings at the 2014 Art Institute of Chicago special exhibit on Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity.  The painting is normally held by the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This card is also one of the postcards that I've sent the most and has, sadly, been lost the most in the mail; however this particular postcard is special....because of where it was posted:

That's right...this card was sent from the USAF McMurdo Base in Antarctica.  I saw a message on Postcrossing in late 2015 saying that someone was going to Antarctica on a research trip and wanted to take mail to have it stamped and mailed from Antarctica.

The sender included a link to their research experiment which you can check out here about Weddel Seals in the Ross Sea.  Thank you very much!
